About Us
San Francisco Legal Professionals Association (SFLPA) is one of nearly 40 chapters of Legal Secretaries, Incorporated (LSI), a California nonprofit mutual benefits organization. We were founded in 1936 and incorporated in 1962.
Our members are legal assistants, paralegals, legal secretaries, legal administrators, legal employment consultants, banking/trust department personnel, attorneys, court clerks, and court reporters.
Full membership is available to anyone with:
- A minimum of one year’s experience in a law office or engaged in work of a legal nature
- Permanent employment in the legal field at the time of application
- Attendance to two SFLPA sponsored functions
- Sponsorship by an active member
An individual with less than one year of legal experience may become an Associate Member.
We provide great opportunities for our members to network and meet people in the legal profession. We hold monthly meetings featuring guest speakers. We also host events, fundraisers and other get-togethers with neighboring LSI chapters.
We help our members enhance their professional development by providing educational programs for our members. Some of our programs include continuing education credits: MCLE for attorneys and paralegals, and CCLS credits for California Certified Legal Secretaries.
We keep our members up to date on court announcements, news and other important information about the legal field.
We offer our members an ever-expanding list of benefits, including discounts, insurance plans, Costco and credit union memberships, and job listings.
SFLPA members automatically become members of LSI, with access to legal specialization sections and opportunities to attend statewide quarterly and annual conferences.
We make job postings available before they are advertised to the general public.
We help members prepare to sit for the California Certified Legal Secretaries CCLS examination, which is given twice a year.
