From Our President

President’s Message

Happy July!  I hope everyone is having some fun in the sun with family and friends.  And I hope you can fit in some fun with your LSI colleagues as well.  On Sunday, July 17, Team SFLPA will be participating in the San Francisco AIDS Walk for the third year in a row.  Team SFLPA is very close to reaching its fund raising goal of $1,000!  But why not raise the bar a little higher?  Even if you are unable to walk on Sunday, you can help by sponsoring one of our walkers.  This is a very worthwhile cause and I hope you will consider helping in any way you can.

On July 31, Alameda County LSA will be hosting an interclub event at the A’s Game.  A flyer with all details is in this issue of the Hearsay.  The Coliseum is easy to get to on BART.  I am planning to go and I hope to see some of you there.

Also in this issue of the Hearsay is a flyer regarding the August 6 Memorial Picnic being planned by Santa Clara Legal Professionals Association.  Please contact me for tickets.  If you would like to carpool with me, I’d love the company.

Our next General Membership meeting is July 19 and features a presentation by SFLPA Life Member Faye Lee, Esq. on estate planning.  This will be a fantastic presentation that will provide useful and practical information even for those of us who do not work in that area of law.  Probate and estate planning affect each of us on a personal level, so you will not want to miss this valuable presentation.  Faye has planned a fantastic menu at Young’s Cafe, and plans to give those in attendance a special Chinatown gift.  If you have not already made your reservation, please do so as soon as possible by forwarding an email to me at cflores@orrick.com

At its meeting on July 5, the Board approved the applications of Annabelle Fritz and Ann Estrada for active membership in SFLPA.  Welcome Annabelle and Ann!  I look forward to seeing you soon at one of our events!
Stockton-San Joaquin County LPA will be hosting the LSI quarterly conference to be held August 19-21, 2011 in Stockton.  It is not too late to plan to attend.  Stockton is an easy drive from the Bay Area, and it is possible to attend for one day if your schedule does not permit you to set the entire weekend aside for this conference.  I hope that some of you can plan to attend, even if only for the meeting on Saturday.  LSI conferences are excellent opportunities for networking, education, making new friends, and getting an idea of the “big picture”.

Whatever your plans are this summer, I hope you will be able to participate in some of these upcoming events.  And please, “Each One, Reach One!”
