PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I hope that all of you are enjoying the beautiful weather that the Bay Area is finally seeing, and that Summer is giving you all a chance to take some time with family and friends. As many of you know, Sally Mendez has found it necessary to step down as President of SFLPA. I have assumed the duties and responsibilities as your President. I appreciate all of the support that I have received from the Board members as we make this transition. Sally will still be very visible to SFLPA and the legal community as she is continuing on in her roles as Education Committee Chair and CCLS Chair. Sally has many exciting plans for legal programs and I hope you will all support her by offering assistance and/or participating in the workshops and training courses she has planned. She has also graciously agreed to help Jane Shahi in the preparation of the Hearsay.
We have recently welcomed several new members and associate members to the Association. I hope that you will continue to keep your colleagues in mind and invite them to our meetings. I would like to encourage each memeber to invite one colleague to an upcoming meeting or other event. If each member were to introduce just one colleague to SFLPA, we could conceivably double our membership!
AIDS Walk is July 18 and Sally has been diligently working to organize our team of walkers. If you have not yet signed up and are available, please contact Sally for more information. Not only is SFLPA supporting a very worthwhile cause, but we are earning Chapter Achievement Points at the same time!
Our General Membership meeting on July 20 will feature Bankruptcy Judge Montali's law clerk, and will be a presentation on bankruptcy law and procedures. You won't want to miss this presentation. These economic times are bringing more of us in touch with bankruptcy cases.
I look forward to seeing all of you soon, and working with you to accomplish the goals and objectives of SFLPA.
Chris
